Yesterday afternoon, the Daily Transom received an emailed invite for a cocktail party taking place on Thurs., Dec. 5 to "celebrate the holidays" with Harvey Weinstein's online community A Small World (a.k.a. Facebook for millionaires) and the luxury diamond brand Leviev at the brand's Madison Avenue boutique.The email's subject line was, "Socials Buck the Recession with Champagne & Diamonds,"

Young socials like Dalia Oberlander, Jennifer Creel, Gillian Hearst-Shaw, and actress Kiera Chaplin, will be modeling some of the jewelry while socialites Amanda Hearst, Annelise Peterson, and Annie Churchill play hostess.

Later this week, the fall season of society events takes its final bow, as it does every season, with the Winter Wonderland Ball at the Botanical Gardens. Luigi Tadini, the Brazilian-born 25-year-old unabashed male socialite, who for the last six years has been a fixture on the gala circuit, isn’t even going, let alone lending his name to the committee board.

“People need to choose their charities, and it’s a lesson that sometimes you have to learn the hard way when you move to New York, because you could be on a committee for a million things,” he said over a lunch of rigatoni and Pinot Grigio last Saturday at the Bowery Hotel.  read more »

As investment banks collapse, insurance firms file for bankruptcy, and jobs continue to be lost, it seems that New York socialites deserve some of the blame for jinxing the stock market.

On March 7, Arden Wohl, Derek Blasberg, Amanda Hearst, Claire Bernard and nightclub owner Simon Hammerstein rang the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange--seemingly also ringing in the period of financial ruin that directly followed the ceremony, reports Cityfile, which even retrieved graphical proof.

We suppose that's what we deserve for allowing the party people of our city to handle such historically important tasks. But all of this also got us thinking.  read more »
