At the Harvey Weinstein/GQ party at the Public House on East 41 St., Georgette Mosbacher, another one of the hosts, was putting on a brave face. “As a Republican I plan to have fun in spite of it all. I’ll make the best of it,” said Ms. Mosbacher, who is the CEO of the Borghese cosmetics company and the ex-wife of Robert Mosbacher, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce under George H.W. Bush.

But how upset was she really about the election? “I am so upset, you have no idea,” she said, though she was laughing as she said it. “But I will not show it. I will not give my other friends the satisfaction of seeing me melt down!”  read more »

At the Accompanied Literary Society's Halloween night masquerade party, Mary-Kate Olsen looked like an ethereal fairy in a long white down with dusted-on silver eye make-up. She was there to view a recently unearthed Edgar Allen Poe manuscript, Lady Irene, which was on display in front of a DJ booth occupied by model Le Call and actor Leo Fitzpatrick. The poem, written in 1830 and found in rural Virginia, will be sold in New York next month by Bloomsbury Auctions. In the meantime, the auction house lent it to Accompanied Literary Society founder Brooke Geahan for one of her high profile "Literati" parties. And so Ms. Geahan had invited actor Josh Lucas to read the poem for the assembled guests.

"Mary-Kate is an Edgar Allen Poe girl. She's a fan," said Ms. Geahan. "She's a little annoyed at Josh right now because he's not going to read it until midnight and she wants to hear it now. She's like, ‘We waited since 1830, we want to hear it now!" (It was 10:30 p.m.)

To celebrate the poet, the attractive Ms. Geahan was dressed up as a raven.  read more »

Last night the much-discussed Hollywood contingent here in Denver, who have been lending their "visibility" to myriad events and causes all over town, congregated in the V.I.P. section of the Black Eyed Peas concert. Members of the Creative Coalition's hard-working band of entertainers—Alan Cumming, Tim Daly, Anne Hathaway, Spike Lee, Barry Levinson, Josh Lucas, Matthew Modine, Susan Sarandon—were joined by various showbiz colleagues including Jessica Alba and Hayden Panettiere in the balcony area at the Fillmore Auditorium, as Fergie & Co. shook their rumps on stage below.

Meanwhile, local nightclub impresario Jesse Morreale wondered if the glamorous crowd would have enough energy to return for another after after party at the Rockbar.  read more »

Transom correspondent Spencer Morgan is in Denver this week, talking his way into all sorts of political-slash-celebrity bashes. At the Creative Coalition event on Monday evening, he cornered Josh Lucas, Alan Cumming and the West Wing's Richard Schiff.

Meanwhile, in the Hamptons, George Gurley sunned his buns and found Russell Simmons, Stephanie Wei and Liam McMullan hanging out at an American Red Cross party at the estate where Mariah Carey got married a couple months ago. The songbird was nowhere in sight, but Ms. Wei and Mr. McMullan were more than happy to share their thoughts on the summer. "The Hamptons are like Disney World!" sniffed Ms. Wei.

Also: Meredith Bryan chats with model-socialite Elettra Wiedemann (daughter of Isabella Rossellini) about her new T-shirt line, whose proceeds go to help hospitals in Burundi, and Jonathan Liu thinks he may have found the real Gossip Girl—and she's wearing teal velour.

DENVER—“I think the most interesting thing I’ve seen so far is all the secret deals that have been going on,” said the actor Josh Lucas at the Going Green event hosted by Bank of America on Monday night. The American Psycho star is at the Democratic National Convention, making the rounds of the Creative Coalition circuit of events. “It’s been happening everywhere. ‘I’ll give you two tickets to the J.Lo party, you give me two tickets to see Fergie on Thursday.’ It’s been happening everywhere. It’s like serious drug dealing going on.”

Earlier that day, Mr. Lucas had been in an SUV heading to one of the many events sponsored by the  read more »

DENVER—After hosting a lunch in support of helping diabetes patients at the restaurant Panzano, the Creative Coalition gathered its merry band of New York-based celebrities into a back section of the restaurant to get on with the showbiz-oriented non-profit's lesser known agenda this year: a documentary, called Poliwood, featuring their historic voyage to the Democratic National Convention, directed by Barry Levinson.

The scene in the backroom featured a pep talk from a frumpy looking guy with a bad toupee on refining the rhetoric of Democratic talking points, followed by a Q&A among the actors in attendance, including Susan Sarandon, Anne Hathaway, Josh Lucas, Richard Schiff, Giancarlo Esposito and others.  read more »

Now that we're into the second day of the Democratic National Convention, it's time for a poll of all that "celebrity power" that was supposed to follow Barack Obama to Denver.

While Paris Hilton has not shown up yet (much to the disappointment of John McCain supporters), here are some noteworthy names that attended events during the first day of the convention as put together by Associated Press, with a little additional research by the Daily Transom:

Danny Glover showed up at the Creative Coalition event wearing a Martin Luther King Jr. T-shirt under his blazer.  read more »
