Recently we caught the last two thirds of Cameron Crowe’s 2000 Almost Famous on HBO (it’s on again tonight at 8 p.m. if anyone is interested). Remember how worked up people used to get about that movie –- and how suddenly no one could get away from Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer”? And just think, it came out before Vanilla Sky and (shudder) Elizabethtown. But Cameron Crowe’s career trajectory is another story for another time. What really struck us was just how darn good a job Kate Hudson did in Almost Famous. At the time of the film’s release, the only thing people knew about Ms.  read more »

At last the Jolie-Pitt twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, entered the world on Saturday night via a Ceserian section at the Lenval hospital in the South of France. Giving a press conference shortly after the birth, Dr. Michel Sussman told reporters:
"It was an epidural, so [Angelina] was awake and speaking and laughing. They were happy. [Brad] was my assistant! He was perfectly calm, totally determined, very pleased to be at the birth of his children, very moved and very emotional." [Us Weekly]

An official photo of the precious twins is estimated to fetch between $15 and $20 million. [NY Daily News]

Meanwhile, Brad Pitt is reportedly going right back to work, meeting with Quentin Tarantino in France today about starring in Inglorious Bastards, a World War II movie inspired by spaghetti westerns. [P6]  read more »

Celebrity power lunch at Michael's! Well, sort of. In honor of April Fool's, Page Six is reporting that Michael's will have a table where celebrity impersonators of Amy Winehouse, Eliot Spitzer, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and baby Harlow (don't worry, it's a doll, not a hired baby look-alike) will appear to be having lunch. [P6]

For more festivities, Joey Scaggs will apparently lead his annual April Fool's parade down Fifth Avenue that will be led by a George Bush impersonator, who will get a head start and then get chased by an angry mob. The parade will also feature Michael Vick on a dog-fighting float and a Tourette's syndrome float with Don Imus, Ann Coulter and Dog the Bounty Hunter yelling obscenities at the crowds. Fun! A 32-year-old ad copywriter, who sings in a downtown band and has a lot of tattoos, was on the phone from the East Village. His tone was confessional.

“For the last two years,” he said, “I’ve been chasing tail, sowing my wild oats, literally meeting girls and bringing them up to my apartment. And now”—his voice dropped a decibel or two—“I’ve gone three weeks without having sex. And I’m getting this response from some of my male friends: ‘Oh, good for you, that’s great.’ Almost like that’s more manly, more studly.  read more »

Manhattan Weekend Box Office: Who's So Money, Now? Martin Macks Manhattan, While Vince Winces

Manhattan Weekend Box Office: Who's So Money, Now? Martin Macks Manhattan, While Vince Winces
Universal, Warner Bros., Picturehouse

Lesson learned this weekend: Martin Lawrence still has it, while Vince Vaughn doesn’t always. Out of five—yes, five—comedies released this weekend, Lawrence’s Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins (No. 1) was easily the fan favorite in Manhattan, out-grossing its closest competition, the Kate Hudson, Matthew McConaughey romantic barnstormer Fool’s Gold by over $60,000. (Gold did, however, get the last laugh by claiming more cash nationally.) So, where did Vince Vaughn’s stand-up travelogue, Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show, end up? Well, for starters, not on our top 10.  read more »

Sara Vilkomerson’s Guide to This Week’s Movies: I Love(d) the 80’s
Warner Brothers; Universal

Okay … so we had the weirdest dream this weekend. Some movie we had never heard of, something that rhymed “Hannah” with “Montana,” came out of nowhere and broke all sorts of records. Oh, wait, that actually happened? Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour (featuring a young lady born in the early 90’s, sigh), which plays in 3-D (augh!), made $29 million even though it only played in 683 theaters. This means it did better than any other movie playing over the Super Bowl weekend. Ever. It even did better than Titanic. O.K.?  read more »

In Vogue’s February issue, Kate Bosworth addresses her much-publicized bouts with extreme weight loss.

“Whenever anything happens that's very painful or stressful, we all lose weight—my mother, my aunt, my grandmother,” the 25-year-old actress told the fashion glossy. “I honestly thought something was wrong with me....I was concerned for my health and my fans, the public. I would have said, don't look at this as the standard of some kind of beauty and health. [It was] a very dark time in my life.”

She also recounts the night she met her boyfriend, model-musician James Rousseau, at a Marc Jacobs after party. Ms. Bosworth was apparently surprised that he didn’t walk away from her; “I looked like a mess,” she said. But instead of leaving her in the dust, Mr. Rousseau confronted her and asked her if she was Kate Hudson. Embarrassing mix-ups notwithstanding, they left the shindig together and went to Maggie’s Pub for a round of beers and Bob Dylan tunes.

“He saw the potential,” she said of their first night together. “He wanted to fix me in a little way. And to be quite honest, he did. He was such a ray of light in my life.”  read more »

Goldie Hawn and her companion, Kurt Russell, 56, have been part-time residents of Aspen, Colo., for the last 25 years. But now the 62-year-old actress says she can’t even go into the tony ski town anymore because of an increased paparazzi presence.

“They've come into our little town and they really have done their job: They've shooed us out,” Ms. Hawn told the Aspen Times. She also said that in the past she could walk around Aspen without being hounded by photogs, and the few shutterbugs the town did attract were apparently discreet.  read more »

Wild and crazy guys! Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce.

Italian fashion designers Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce have had a riotous weekend in New York. The two men have come to the city to reopen their D&G boutique on Madison Avenue, but they’ve also made plenty of time for partying at The Box, Bobo, Socialista and the Beatrice Inn. Speaking to WWD at a celebratory luncheon, Mr. Gabbana said that New York nightlife these days feels “more European, smaller and more intimate. It’s like Europe. But it’s still totally different.” Okay! Other guests at the midday fete included a slew of socialites like Fabiola Beracasa, Genevieve Jones, Eleanor Ylvisaker, Tinsley Mortimer and Lisa Airan. Some even more famous faces popped in, too. Kate Hudson and Eva Mendes, who are reportedly good friends with the design duo, came to look around, but Ms. Mendes said she couldn’t be bothered with the actual buying part. “I'm lucky enough that people send stuff to me, but I usually have to give it back,” she said. Ms. Hudson followed suit, telling the fashion daily: “I'm trying not to shop anymore," Hudson continued. "I've gotten in the habit of making phone calls when I see something and saying, 'Please, when that comes in, can you send it?'" Must be nice!
