“Tonight is what I call menu night: You get a little taste of what the company does throughout the season,” said socialite and American Ballet Theater board member Blaine Trump during intermission at the company’s opening night and spring gala at the Metropolitan Opera House on Monday, May 19. “To be honest, I always thought I was going to be a ballerina when I grew up,” she added.  read more »

Video! Fashion Industry Feeds the Poor, Clothes the Emaciated

Generalizing is generally bad business. Unless, of course, you’re talking about people in fashion. They’re all just sooo helplessly self-obsessed. Right? No—wrong, actually. Sure, they might go and make a video about all their good works after they’re done. But they are doing good. As stunning Sudanese supermodel Alek Wek told us when we caught up with her during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, “You can’t just judge it, like, one onion isn’t smelling good and the whole sack is like that!”

Considering the season and everything, we found this recently-shot clip rather fitting. It features 15 prominent people in the fashion industry talking about their favorite charities. From Tory Burch discussing her volunteer work for Memorial Sloan-Kettering to Zac Posen sharing his loyalty to TeachersCount, it may just refashion your view of...fashion.

Lance Armstrong's Daughter Schools Ashley Olsen

Lance Armstrong’s daughter brought her father’s new love thing, Ashley Olsen, to her Texas school for show-and-tell, Radar reports today. “Celebrities do this all the time,” a source apparently said of the odd ordeal. Or, at least Mr. Armstrong is familiar with the notion. Apparently the “part-eunuch” was the subject of a show-and-tell session at the Upper East Side school of ex-girlfriend Tory Burch’s daughter.

At Apollo Circle Benefit, Guests Get Big-Screen Treatment

patrickmcmullan.com

As young patrons of the Metropolitan Museum of Art arrived in black-tie attire for the Apollo Circle benefit dinner, which was held last Thursday, they didn’t even need to wait until the next day to peruse Patrick McMullan’s party pics to see everyone who was there. Images taken by the photographer were projected onto the walls of the museum, showing guests as they arrived. The large, cinema-sized photos provided most guests with their ideal introduction: “Hey, everybody! Guess who’s here? ... Me!”, they seemed to shout.

If, like us, you were absent from the hoity-toity fete, check out Park Avenue Peerage’s photos of event chairs Tory Burch, Marina Rust Connor and Marjorie Gubelmann. Joining the fashionable host trio at the party were do-good socialites like Alexis Bryan, Byrdie Bell, Renee Rockefeller, Gigi Mortimer, Elizabeth Lindemann and Berry and Jane Bloomingdale.
