In 2008, a big day for record sales is a relative thing, for the majors and the indies alike. Physical sales are lower than ever, even for superstars; bands routinely crack Billboard’s top 10 with sales barely in the five digits. But today is a big day in the record industry.

Coldplay's newest, Viva la Vida, hits stores today; there are high, high hopes for the album. The band that broke with "Yellow" way back in 2000 has had a couple of smash records since then, A Rush of Blood to the Head in 2002 and X & Y three years later; they're as close to the sure thing (U2) as the record industry gets these days. Holy Moses! Apparently not too bored with the U.S.A., actress Gwyneth Paltrow, and her sensitive rocker husband, Chris Martin, are buying in the Hamptons, according to the New York Post.

The five-bedroom, Traditional home includes ocean views, a pool and guest quarters. Unfortunately, there's no mention of a price. However, The Post drops a juicy hint.

Her broker, Gene Stilwell of The Corcoran Group, would not comment on the transaction, but he does have a listing that looks remarkably similar in description.
So does Mr. Stilwell have any listings that match up? Well, there is a five-bedroom, Traditional home in Amagansett. The price: $6.5 million.  read more »

Fifth Ave Flood

Divorce is always hardest on the beach house. After almost 22 years, Kathleen Turner and Jay Weiss are splitting up and their Amagansett home is on the market for $7.95 million, according to the New York Post. Also, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin are staying in the city after all, reportedly signing a contract for a $7 million Tribeca pad.
