New Museum Hands Out First Altoids Award

I was never big on Altoids -- they're a bit too chalky, a little too fresh, perhaps. But I would be chewing the hell out of those things if they made me $25,000 richer, as they did the four individuals (one of them a New Yorker) whom the New Museum has named the winners of the first Altoids Award, a new biennial prize for emerging artists that's sponsored by the "curiously strong" mint maker.

"For so many of these artists, this is a life-changing opportunity, and that is exactly what we are here for -- to champion emerging artists and to consistently offer our audiences the chance to experience new art and new ideas from a variety of perspectives," said Lisa Phillips, the New Museum's director, in a statement.  read more »

Paul McCartney, Rosanna Arquette: 'Spending More Time Together'

The Arquette siblings are many things, but shy is not one of them. That holds especially true for colorful sister Alexis, whose cross-dressing fabulosity puts her back in the headlines from time to time. Now, it seems, she is even willing to spill the beans on 48-year-old sibling Rosanna’s rumored relationship with Paul McCartney. (The two were recently spotted canoodling outside of the former Beatle’s North London home.) According to Ms. Arquette, the two “are spending more time together,” bound, she said, by their love for music. “[Rosanna] interviewed him for a documentary that she did on Rock and Roll," Ms. Arquette added to People over the weekend at a TV Academy’s annual Ribbon of Hope AIDS gala. "She's been a big fan of his music for a long time, and I know that they befriended each other several years ago. Who knows, if something came out of it, that's cool, it's great."

Barbara Walters, Nancy Shevell Are Related

Barbara Walter’s negative comments about Heather Mills on Monday’s The View took on some considerable weight today. In the episode, Ms. Walters called Paul McCartney’s ex-wife “so impossible” and “not a very nice woman.”

As it happens, Mr. McCartney’s new lover, Nancy Shevell, is Ms. Walters’ kin. Cousins, in fact. During the said episode, the venerable newswoman’s also said that when she interviewed Mr. McCartney’s now-ex-wife, she was “extremely difficult.”

In a statement given to the Huffington Post, Ms. Walters’ publicist, Cindi Berger, explains:

“Barbara was unaware that Nancy was involved with Paul McCartney. We just found out about that when the press alerted us. Barbara and Nancy are second cousins. Barbara is not her aunt.”

We checked in today with celebrity life coach Patrick Wanis, Ph.D., in order to hear his expert opinions on what Hollywood people should be doing with themselves right now.

Again this week in the romance department, rumors and announcements surrounding novel couplings have proven their power to flabbergast outsiders. Last time we checked in with Mr. Wanis, he offered a bleak outlook on the prospect of Lance Armstrong and Ashley Olsen finding true love together. But this week, after hearing confirmation of singer Rihanna and actor Josh Hartnett’s relationship, Mr. Wanis was hopeful.  read more »

Heather Mills on Today

Heather Mills may want to just disappear sometimes, but one wouldn’t know it from her recent press march. Ms. Mills, 39, a onetime nude model and the erstwhile spouse of Paul McCartney, went on the Today show this morning with a bad case of logorrhea. (“I fell in love with a man, not a Beatle!” she reportedly said at one point during the 10-minute long interview.) Apparently, it’s not the fear of being alone and without the $100 million divorce settlement—money she turned down because of its attendant gag order—that bothers Ms. Mills, it’s the relentless media coverage she’s garnered since the duo took a trip to Splitsville. At least she knows better than to do something like go on the Today show...oh...nevermind.

Page Six Blind Item!

WHICH TABLOID reported a false rental price for an ex-Beatle's ex?

Today's Page Six reports:

Heather Mills can thank her ultra-rich Hollywood pals for her quality time in the Hamptons this past weekend--she had the use of a stunning oceanfront home in Amagansett and didn't pay a dime for it, Page Six has learned. Earlier this week, it was reported that Mills was shelling out close to $80,000 for a weeklong Hamptons rental so she could be near Beatrice, her 2-year-old daughter with Paul McCartney.

It was reported, was it? And where might it have been reported?

Mills, who usually calls Britain home, is shelling out $80,000 a week to rent a posh East Hampton pad located near estranged hubby Paul McCartney's retreat, where he has been vacationing with their 2-year-old daughter, Beatrice.
