Now that New York Fashion Week is but a distant memory, the front rows of Paris Fashion Week—which ends Oct. 5—are crowded with editors, socialites and actresses. At the Balmain show, Derek Blasberg sat alongside Milla Jovovich and Paul Anderson. French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld and her daughter Julia Restoin-Roitfeld attended the Christian Dior Spring 2009 show, and  Tinsley Mortimer made an appearance at Christian Lacroix. Even the ubiquitous Leigh Lezark is over there posing for photos! 

(Note to Ms. Lezark: Stick to that whole black-only thing; the hot pink tutu dress is a little much.)

New York artist and filmmaker Julian Schnabel, along with French Vogue editor-in-chief Carine Roitfield and Bobby Shriver of the (Product)RED Campaign, will be honored by the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) at the organization’s 10th annual gala on January 31, according to Variety. Presenters for the humanitarian fete, being held at Cipriani in midtown, include Marc Jacobs and Lou Reed (although the evening’s highlight may just be a special performance by none other than Barry Manilow!).  read more »

Elle’s holiday party was held last night at former Bungalow bouncer Armin Amiri’s Hudson-hugging hotspot Socialista. And guess what? Craziness ensued! At one point, the fashion mag’s creative director Joe Zee teamed up with design director Paul Ritter to perform a wicked rendition of the head-bobbing dance from the SNL spin-off flick Night at the Roxbury. That movie is so hot right now.

And though it’s no West Village dive bar, Indochine, near Astor Place, hosted the comely staffers afterwards for dinner. But! Once there, fashion director and Project Runway dominatrix Nina Garcia ran smack into the folks from French Vogue, who had already gathered for their holiday party at a neighboring table.

According to the book’s “Style Wise” blogger, Tracey Lomrantz, Elle’s competing editor, Carine Roitfeld, looked “unimpeachably stylish” in Givenchy. Joined by her ever-stylish daughter Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, English model Lily Donaldson and shipping tycoon Stavros Niarchos, Ms. Roitfeld, it seems, won this holiday-party design challenge. Also at Indochine last night were the peeps from C&M Media, which represents Chris Benz, Thakoon and Moncler. Reportedly “digging into spring rolls and sticky rice,” they were apparently more interested in the grub than in the other diners.

Socialites, artsy celebrities—Vincent Gallo, Michel Gondry, photographer duo Inez and Vinoodh—and half the employees of Condé Nast turned out for the Rodarte show in Chelsea on Saturday. (Paris Vogue editor Carine Roitfield was smoky-eyed as ever at three in the afternoon). The white loft lacked ventilation, and everyone in the room was fanning themselves with free Lexus brochures. The dresses were pastel and diaphanous, the eyeliner severe, and the shoes—oh, the shoes!

Mostly black or royal blue, treacherously high, covered with pointy spikes: It looked as though fighting dog collars had been wrapped around the models’ feet. Designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy received the loudest round of applause we’ve yet heard, and afterwards, bottlenecked at the top of a lone staircase, sweating profusely, mysteriously patient fashion editors chatted excitedly amongst themselves, heaping praise on the collection.  read more »
