Swede Sensation: 21 Club Shudders as Adams, Sevigny Encase Buttocks in Snug Euro-Denim
As guests arrived at the 21 Club on the evening of Friday, March 28, for a party celebrating the opening in Soho of Acne Jeans’ first American store two days earlier, the Stockholm-based label’s creative director, Jonny Johansson, sat cross-legged in a plush red banquette, talking with the Transom about denim.
“If you had to choose one garment today that’s the most important garment in fashion, I would say it’s a basic pair of jeans,” he said in his thick Swedish accent. read more »
Misshapes to Go Digital (Soon!)
The expansion and promotion of the Misshapes's je ne sais quoi continues apace. After months of planning, construction and a few obligatory hiccups, the downtown-dwelling, party-deejaying, trendsetting trio’s official Web site will launch, they say, as early as next week. The group hopes that by cutting the digital ribbon in the midst of all the mayhem at Bryant Park, the fashion-minded site can tap into the event's publicity machine. read more »
Vice Photo Editor Gets Solo Show, Exhibits "Weirder" Images
On Thursday, Jan. 17, Manhattan photographer Patrick O’Dell sent a message to his friends on MySpace urging them to come to the opening of his first solo exhibit.
“I have a fear this is going to be like my birthday or whenever else I invite everyone I know to something and like 4 people show up...I've already had bad dreams about it,” he wrote.
On the contrary, Mr. O’Dell’s opening Saturday night at Fuse Gallery, which is housed in the back of the cave-like East Village bar Lit, on 2nd Avenue, turned out to be a generously attended affair. A mixed crowd of downtown hipsters and art patrons snaked through the 33-piece photo exhibit, sipping on bottles of Bud and Red Stripe as actor Leo Fitzpatrick, a friend of Mr. O’Dell’s, spun classic ‘80s records. read more »
Chloë Sevigny Pretends to Have Drug Problems for Harper's Bazaar
There’s something undeniably alluring about Chloë Sevigny. The moment we met her in director Larry Clark’s Kids, her unique sense of style came wafting off the screen, securing her place in the fashion zeitgeist. Even now, on HBO’s Big Love, the 33-year-old actress manages to make polygamy attractive—perhaps it has something to do with those just-rolled-out-of-bed eyes. So cool her vibe and refreshing her style, it almost seems like she could do no wrong.
During a recent photo shoot in Paris for Harper’s Bazaar, acclaimed fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh chose to give the Look Book spread a decidedly edgy theme—“They Tried to Make Me Go to Rehab.” While the Amy Winehouse shout-out is slightly amusing and Ms. Sevigny’s security in her sobriety is kind of refreshing, these pics make her look creepy. In this clip from the Parisian photo sesh, she offers her sense of Mr. Lindbergh’s work. “I love the way he shoots women; they’re always very strong and confident,” she says, adding: “There’s just something romantic and very feminine about his pictures.” Really?
Chloe Sevigny Shops at Kiehl's to Relieve Dry Hands, Address AIDS Worldwide
On Saturday, World AIDS Day, New Yorkers marked a grave occasion in the usual fashion: with retail!
Among those who turned up at the Kiehl's store on Third Avenue, where motorcyles adorn the windows and a portion of the day's proceeds went to the cause, were Dina and Alli Lohan (Lindsay is so last year). Chloe Sevigny, in massive leather Cloak coat and gray knit beret, ducked in to do her part, gamely posing for photos and chatting about her dry winter hands (she is a fan of Ultimate Strength Hand Salve, she said, though she can never remember its name, because her boyfriend turns all products backwards on the shelf). read more »
