Page Six's 'Silly and Inaccurate' Tale of Montauk Locals vs. Surf Lodge

Page Six reported today that Montauk locals are not so pleased that Surf Lodge, the eatery where hunky former Top Chef contestant Sam Talbot oversees the menu, is such a celebrity magnet; according to the paper, residents of Montauk—cherished for being a relatively low-key fishing hamlet—are annoyed that the restaurant has been attracting "German cars and celebrities such as Julian Schnabel, Ralph Lauren and Aida Turturro" to an area that residents like to refer to as "very raw."

Page Six claimed that the main issue is traffic around the eatery on weekends, when high-profile guests park wherever they please and have photographers and reporters following them and blocking the roadways, and that in retaliation, neighboring restaurants and bars are refusing to serve Surf Lodge partners Rob McKinley, Jaimee Mulholland and Jayma Cardoso.

But something's fishy here, and it's not the panko crusted tuna on the Surf Lodge menu. A representative of Surf Lodge told the Daily Transom that "the item was silly and inaccurate, and we were never contacted to comment."

Could someone--perhaps one of Surf Lodge's jealous competitors--have planted the item in Page Six? We'll be keeping a (fish)eye on this one.

I have a deep love for Montauk and have spend some time at Surf lodge recently and I can understand why it's on the radar. This establishment has brought a fun youthful vibe to montauk and yet it still true to it's origin. I thinks it's tragic that others are jealous of it's success and create false stories. Why not just enjoy this new outlet just like you would enjoy the freshly stuffed clams at Lenny's restaurant or fabulous filet mignon at Dave's or $2 drinks at the Point.. This place has a role to play in Montauk just like all the other establishments so just let it be,

I've been coming to Mounatuk for the last 11 Summers and every time a new place opens the same thing happens. They did to Cyril's,Sole East and they even tried to shut down the garden at harvest (fantastic restaurant). Surf Loge is just trying to fit with the rest of the other places in Mountauk come on give these folks a break. Let them do their thing.
