“I think the governor should govern and move on to the next issue,” said Assemblyman Darryl Towns, when I reached him on his cell phone just now.

Towns noted that Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver made the same point in the Daily News recently. But, Towns said, “That’s not just Shelly speaking. That’s the majority. And I''m not just speaking in Assembly terms, but in public opinion, they want to see us move on.”

Was he surprised that more Democrats haven’t held press conferences to defend the governor?

“No, I don’t think that there is much need for that. We want to continue to move forward and make sure we can take care of the issues that are important to the state of New York," he said.

“I think that, in moving forward in a conciliatory manner, in working with both houses, is the way that our forefathers set up our government, and the way that he should proceed.”

Towns, who had just taken a break from painting over graffiti with community activists in Cypress Hills, added, “Maybe the governor should come out and join me with a brush.”
